I Love My Dog
Published on February 10, 2004 By BroadLee In Pets & Nature
My dear old Dalmatian is near death -- struggling valiantly to hang on. Her name is Sami, she's 14, and I love her. If you've ever loved a dog for their whole life and lost them, you know it leaves a hole in the heart that can't be repaired.

Losing the dog I grew up with was the hardest thing I had gone through up until that point in my life. People don't recognize your grief the way they do for a person. That dog, as I am sure yours is, was a big part of the family. 14 is very old for a larger dog like a dalmation. You must have treated her very well. I am truly sorry and hope Sami doesn't suffer. Best wishes.

There is no comfort for you when you watch your beloved Sami struggle. She loves you and will always be with you. You will have her for the rest of your life. I loved a dog too and raised Taka from a tiny baby and lost him at age 12. I still think of him every day and keep his photos about me. Sami is a gift and you are good friends. My heart goes out to you.
